Will MacNally

Partner

Will combines high-level marketing strategy with hardcore technophile geekery. After good, long runs at several “big agencies”—working on Kraft Foods, Pfizer, Ocean Spray, Adobe, Fidelity—Will started believing that, “smart, impactful marketing ideas shouldn’t be hard, complex things to introduce into the market—no matter their size or the client’s budget.” So he took his 25 years’ experience and dedicated himself to making this simple idea a reality.

Having worked at both brand and direct response agencies, Will’s vision was an agency that didn’t force clients to choose one or the other. By bringing together the best practices of both, “brand” work would no longer be seen as an unmeasurable, longer-term investment, nor would the agency’s best creatives look down their noses at direct response, seeing it as “largely formulaic and uninspired.” Will has spent the past 12 years building Grove, largely on this vision.

Once a heretic for his ideas about commingling brand and direct, today Will is a respected member of the Boston marketing community. While earning his M.B.A. from Bentley, he founded the Graduate Marketing Organization. He has since earned Hatch Awards, the recognition of the MITX and a spot on the board of the New England Direct Marketing Association. His favorite idea is still Grove.

Pete Izzo

Partner

Pete has more than 20 years of agency experience in brand strategy and integrated campaign development including stints at Hill Holliday and The VIA Agency before co-founding Grove. He has worked with a wide range of clients—from start-ups to Fortune 100s—across an equally wide range of industries that spans financial services, travel and leisure, professional services, retail, and consumer products. Marquis client engagements include IBM, PricewaterhouseCoopers, CNN, IBM, Brine Lacrosse, Vistaprint and Killington.

Pete is keenly interested in improving the delivery of agency services to clients as well as the creative process and agency operations in general. He’s developed and led account management training programs and has served in a director of operations capacity in addition to his account leadership roles. An early proponent of the agile marketing principles—in fact, before the term was even coined—Pete’s recognition of the traditional agency model’s limitations, coupled with a desire to “do smarter work by working smarter,” ultimately drove him to co-found Grove with partner Will MacNally.

Pete has a B.S. in advertising and marketing from Syracuse University. His work has been recognized by the Massachusetts Innovation and Technology Exchange, the Content Marketing Institute, MarketingSherpa and Adweek. He is also a strategic advisor and board member for LeadGnome, an account-based marketing and sales application.

Ron Clayton

Group Creative Director

From Banknorth to JPMorgan Chase, State Street, BrownCo and TD Ameritrade—from Puma to Disney, HBO and Viacom—clients in virtually all categories have benefited from Ron’s brand- and business-building leadership. Ron joined Grove two years ago, after a long tenure at The VIA Agency, where he led the creative group, ran major creative engagements across all categories and helped the agency snag Adage’s “Small Agency of the Year” honors. Ron is a graduate of University of New Hampshire, Burke Mountain Academy and Norton Elementary School in Cheshire, CT—where he barely eked out a diploma despite the best efforts of many dedicated and determined teachers and administrators. To the delight and probable dismay of some of those teachers, his work has since been featured in US Ad Review and has earned the Financial Communications Society’s highest honor; an Effie; numerous Hatch Awards; and an Emmy nomination.

Ron has also written for Salt Magazine, an award-winning documentary publication in Maine, and for the feature film “Squeeze” while at Cathartic Filmworks. He later discovered the reclusive singer/songwriter Ray LaMontagne, eventually developing Ray into an Grammy-winning talent and one of the most critically acclaimed singer/songwriters of our generation.
